Why is AI implementation so hard?

As a storyteller at SAP, I guided scores of executives on their AI journeys.

Clients from numerous industries described a common challenge - how to pragmatically implement AI and accomplish the business outcomes desired by their boards?

I used AI productivity tools each day, helping me guide large banks and insurance companies to unlock more business value from SAP's broad solution portfolio.

I had a secret up my sleeve - a Forrester certified method for realizing business value from software as a service (SaaS) solutions. The method was inspired by pivotal career experiences with the Structured Systems Analysis and Design Method (SSADM) and the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL).

My questioning revealed common blockers to AI adoption:

• Inconsistent (and often contradictory) understanding of desired outcomes;

• Lack of alignment around a shared vision and strategy;

• Little understanding of the human impact of AI;

• Inadequate governance;

• Lack of AI preparedness;

• Inconsistent adoption;

• Lack of clarity on ROI.

This was my "Aha!" moment - I realized I could bring the same clarity to AI value realization that I'd pioneered for SaaS.

Something interesting happened during my guided tours of the SAP experience center. Cross industry executives loved the insights and pragmatic guidance I was able to share, and invited my opinions on advancing their strategic initiatives.

I abandoned my corporate comfort zone and founded trutina.

Equally fueled by excitement and trepidation, I went back to school at MIT. I extended my strategic AI vision with state of the art hands on technical understanding.
